Two Cats
the two cats diary
Version 7.8.2 · 19/10/2026A diary for bipolar disorder: how you are, how much you sleep and what you take.Half a minute a day. Over time, it shows you your own patterns. Everything is stored encrypted inside this device. No accounts, no sign-up and no servers: nobody else sees it.
On iPhone and iPad: Safari deletes a page's data by itself if seven days go by without opening it. It is a privacy measure by Apple and it applies to every website. Adding Two Cats to the Home Screen takes it out of that count and your diary stays.
Once installed on Android, the app itself tells you when there is a new version. Read the notice before installing.

Legal notice · Your data and this app
Before you start, you should know exactly what this app does with what you write. In plain words, and short.
Where your data lives
Everything you write is stored encrypted inside this phone, with your password. No account, no sign-up, no server. Nobody else has a copy, not even whoever made the app.
The app only connects to update itself
It asks for the internet permission for two things and only those: to check, every time you open it, whether there is a new version of the app and, if there is, to download and install it; and, only if you choose to keep your backup in your cloud, to upload your diary there, already encrypted with your password. Along with that check, when you open the diary it adds one to an installation counter: it only sends a random number the app makes up when it is installed, to know how many installations there are and how often they are opened; it does not say who you are or anything you write, and it goes off with updates. On the website, each time the page is opened one visit is added, with no data at all. It sends nothing else: not your unencrypted notes, not who you are, not any other usage statistics, not errors. Both can be turned off in Settings, and with both off the app does not touch the network at all. Links you save open in another app, which does have network; that one is no longer this app.
How your voice becomes text
If you dictate, your voice is turned into text INSIDE the phone: with the device's own recognizer or with the app's understanding package, which transcribes with Whisper right here. The app doesn't use Google's recognition or any other internet service for your voice: the sound doesn't leave the phone. And if you never dictate, the app works fully all the same.
The understanding pack, if you install it
It is optional and free. You download it yourself with your browser and bring it to the app; the app does not download it because it cannot connect. It does three things: turn your voice into text, understand what you ask the microphone for, and find cards by the meaning of your question. All inside the phone. It is NOT a chatbot: it gives no advice, no opinion on your treatment, no diagnosis and no risk score. It only picks among the things the app already knows how to do and among the cards already written, each with its source.
The system backup
If you have Android backup turned on, the system backs up the encrypted diary file to your Google account, and only that file. Photos, videos, recordings and reports stay out. That backup is made by Android, not by the app, and stays encrypted with your password.
If you lose your password
Nobody can open your diary without it. There is no way to recover it from outside, not even for whoever made the app. That is why you are offered three recovery questions at the start: with them you can get back in; without them, you cannot.
What leaves, leaves because you send it
When you export a copy, share a report or send a recording, that file stops being protected by the app and goes wherever you send it. Think before sharing with someone who should not have it: what leaves does not come back.
Nothing is written in your diary without you seeing it
Not what you dictate, not what the app reads from one of your reports, not what the pack suggests. You are always shown first and you confirm. If something does not match what you remember, what you say is what counts: the app can be wrong and you do not have to accept it.
This is not a medical device
The app does not diagnose, does not adjust treatments and decides nothing for you. It describes what you record. The answers in the search are general information with their source, not medical advice for your case. The people treating you always come first.
This measures nothing
The numbers you see are the ones you typed. A 7 for mood is not a measurement: it is your 7 today, by whatever yardstick you are using today. There is no validated scale behind it, no cut-off points, no comparison with anyone. The charts draw what you wrote down, nothing more. That is why this is a diary and not a clinical instrument.
It cannot tell you whether you have the disorder
Neither confirm it nor rule it out. If you record a few months and see ups and downs, that does not mean you have bipolar disorder: everyone has ups and downs. And if you see nothing odd, that does not mean you don't. You can of course use the app without a diagnosis, and take what you recorded to whoever treats you: that genuinely helps at a first appointment. What you cannot do is draw the conclusion from here, because the app does not have it.
Not for emergencies
The app does not alert anyone for you and does not know whether you are in danger. Nobody reads what you write here: there is no one on the other side. If you are really struggling, call your emergency number, or your suicide prevention line. The numbers you see change with the country you choose.
Your data is yours
You can export all of it whenever you like and delete it completely from Settings. When you delete it, it is really gone: no copy anywhere to ask for.
Age and use
The app is meant for adults and for people supporting someone with their permission. If a minor uses it, whoever cares for them should know.
What accepting means
That you have read this and you understand what the app does and what it does not do. This app helps you keep a record and show whoever treats you what you have recorded. It does not replace your treatment, your psychiatrist, your psychologist or an emergency service. Decisions about your health are yours, with the people who treat you, never with a phone.
This notice is always available in Settings. If any of it changes in a future version, you will be told first.
